Wallace Lab

Wallace Lab is a multidisciplinary research group based in the Centre for Engineering Biology at the University of Edinburgh. Their work is inspired by the chemical ingenuity of microorganisms and how they can be genetically programmed to produce important industrial chemicals from sustainable feedstocks and waste.

As world renowned lab, the team felt that their logotype didn't represent the team or the research they undertake. We worked with them to define a visual direction and create a logotype and communication materials which feels inclusive, vibrant and forward looking.

Part of the University of Edinburgh and a partly publically funded organisation we were required to work to accessible design standards and undertook the work with the university digital and accessible teams.

The lab team find themselves presenting to institutions and organisations across the globe. It was important that we developed a set of design principles and assets which could be used by the internal team without necessarily having to rely on an external designer, this allows them to create materials quickly and effectively which remain on brand.
